What Dylan Stands For

Priorities for Area 2

Strong Students

Back to the Basics

Every child should leave our schools able to read, write, and do math at grade level. Period.

As a high school teacher, I see firsthand the challenges students face when they arrive at high school without the foundational skills they need to succeed. We cannot accept that as the status quo.

As a Board Trustee, I will make sure BCSD stays focused on the fundamentals. Every student deserves a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math so they are prepared for success in high school and beyond.

Whether a student goes on to attend college, enter a skilled trade, serve in the military, or enter the workforce, our schools should prepare them to succeed.

Strong students grow into strong adults.

Strong Classrooms

Put Classroom Dollars in Classrooms

School districts across California are facing growing financial uncertainty. That makes it more important than ever that BCSD spends its resources wisely.

Parents, teachers, and staff should never feel like there is not enough money for the resources students need while district spending continues to grow elsewhere. We deserve transparency when it comes to how every taxpayer dollar is spent.

As a Board Trustee, I will fight for a transparent budget that prioritizes the classroom. This means investing in teachers, staff, teaching materials, technology, and the resources students need to learn and succeed.

Every dollar should work for our students.

Strong Schools

Expand School Programs

Every child deserves the opportunity to participate in activities that help them discover their passions, build confidence, and develop important life skills.

As the cost of camps, music lessons, and youth sports continues to rise, enrichment opportunities are becoming increasingly difficult for many families to afford. At the same time, traditional community sports leagues have been replaced with expensive club sports.

Our schools can help fill this void.

BCSD should ensure that after-school programs and other enrichment opportunities are high quality so that more students can participate, regardless of their family's ability to pay.

Strong after-school programs keep students engaged, build leadership and teamwork skills, and create meaningful connections with their peers and mentors.

Strong schools give every student the opportunity to discover what they can achieve.
